Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival Celebrates Community with Special Event in Partnership with Westport Ladies Social Group
Westport, Co. Mayo — As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting and investing in the local community, the Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival is proud to announce a special community event in collaboration with the Westport Ladies Social Group.
The event will feature an Afternoon Tea hosted by the Westport Ladies Social Group, offering an opportunity for women of all ages and backgrounds to come together in a spirit of warmth, inclusion, and cultural celebration. Attendees will also enjoy live music by acclaimed American folk and bluegrass trio, Shelton & Williams.
The Westport Ladies Social Group is a long-standing, community-based organisation made up of senior women from Westport and surrounding areas. Now in its 10th year, the group provides a welcoming space for women to connect, support one another, and combat isolation through weekly meetups and a broad range of group activities.
Membership has steadily grown over the past decade, and the group currently boasts 39 registered members. Their weekly gatherings include a rich mix of social, cultural, and educational activities such as:
- Yoga, singing, and dance sessions
- IT classes, book club, Irish language classes, and crafts
- Talks and workshops on various topics
- Day trips to local heritage and historical sites
- Attendance at local performing arts events
- Overnight cultural trips across Ireland
With a core mission of promoting inclusion, openness, and friendship, the group welcomes women from all nationalities, faiths, and walks of life.
This community event is a highlight of the festival’s wider mission to celebrate not only music, but also the people and stories that make Westport a vibrant and connected place.
