Golden Shoals, Eryn Marshall & Carl Jones, Nadine Landry & Sammy Lind
American Old-Time music is recognised as the precursor of Bluegrass and country music.
Originally played in private houses and barn dances, this original sound of banjo, fiddle and guitar has paved the way to what is now know as Bluegrass.
This concert will feature three duos that will bring their own take and style on Old-Time music.
Golden Shoals: Golden Shoals is a fiddle and guitar duo with a “rousing old-time-style music that’s fuelled by acerbic modern-day wit” (-No Depression Magazine). They are no strangers to traditional music, having placed in contests including Clifftop (3rd place 2023, 4th place 2022), Mount Airy, The Grand Masters Fiddlers Championship and Galax. Often switching instruments between fiddle, two guitars, and banjo, their original songs have been compared to Gillian Welch, with the added edge of instrumental prowess informed by energetic old time and bluegrass recordings.
Erynn Marshall & Carl Jones: Erynn Marshall and Carl Jones are old-time musicians and inspired tunesmiths from Galax, Virginia. They are married – in life and music. Southern song-duets and powerful fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo tunes comprise their diverse sets. Erynn and Carl play with spontaneity and vitality. While rooted in the traditional sounds of older players, this duo stays true to their own muse by composing new, tradition-rooted music. Carl’s song, Last Time on the Road was featured on the Grammy Award-winning album “Unleashed” by the Nashville Bluegrass Band. They have won many awards for their playing including Erynn’s 1st place fiddle win at Clifftop and Carl’s 3rd place fingerpicking-guitar win at Winfield – both premier festivals in the United States. They have 15 recordings between them including their duet CD Sweet Memories Never Leave. Erynn and Carl have recently toured in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and China.
Nadine Landry & Sammy Lind: Acclaimed old-time and Cajun music performers, Nadine Landry and Sammy Lind call Eastern Quebec home. They tour internationally as a duo or with their band Foghorn Stringband, sharing their soulful interpretations of traditional music. With deep respect and contagious energy, they transport audiences to the heart of American roots music.
